I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Howard Johnson in Anaheim, California. The stay was Incredible to say the least, but let me give you the inside scoop on all the fun details about the hotel.
One of the biggest choices when planning a Disneyland vacation is where to stay. If your looking for something that is affordable and a walking distance from the parks then the Howard Johnson in Anaheim is for you! The Howard Johnson is a fun family oriented hotel with lots of offerings for the kids and adults who stay here.
The Location
When picking a hotel for my Disneyland trip, the first thing I look for is location. If I am not able to stay on Disney property I want a hotel that will still give me that welcoming Disney feeling while being super close to the parks. The HoJo is only a 5 minute walking distance from the parks! Yes, you read that correctly only 5 minutes!! This is BIG because I have stayed on Disney property and some of their hotels had longer walks. After a long day in the park you want to be able to go back to your hotel, take mid day nap or jump in the pool before hitting the parks again at night. The walk from the hotel to the parks is super easy to do and leave you right at the front gates of each park!
The Rooms
As I walked through the doors of my hotel room I was taken away by how big and spacious it was. Our room came with a queen size bed, a set of bunk beds, a balcony overlooking Disneyland and California Adventure, a set of desks, lounge chairs, coffee station and a giant bathroom. We were also greeted in our room with this adorable Mickey and note from the staff!
The HoJo recently refurbished, its rooms to have more of a vintage/ contemporary look and they totally nailed it! The Disney decor and furniture were bright and colorful. The in room amenities were up to date. The TV came with Netflix and Pandora plus it had a ton of channels to choose from.
In your room you will find USB outlets along with regular outlets for charging all of your devices. The rooms refrigerator was a good size and was able to fit all of our yummy park snacks and above it was a Keurig and microwave which was so convenient for early morning wake-ups! Also, if you happen to be in the room when Disneyland does its firework show, make sure you watch them from your balcony or the pool, the view is unbelievable! The fireworks literally happen right above you!
Family Fun
The hotel has a great water park for the kids along with a pool! This exciting pirate-themed water park playground is called Castaway Cove. It has water slides, water cannons and a wading pool. There’s also a swimming pool and a game room nearby. I don't have kids of my own yet, but I can imagine that families need a break after a long day in the park and this is the perfect place to do it! You can also find this fun pirate theme throughout the hotel, they have a treasure chest of chocolate coins and pirate hats at the front desk!
Extra From The Hotel
The hotel also offers a place to do your laundry and a convenience store.
There you can get basic snacks for the parks and fun souvenirs for the kids.
Since the hotel is a walking distance from the parks there are tons of places to stop and pick up food. Here are a few: Panera Bread, Mimi's Restaurant, McDonalds, Ihop and Denny's. All of these aspects of the hotel and the surrounding area just seals the deal for me. The Hojo will forever be my Disneyland stay first pick!
